Creation of Resource Centre for Teenage Mothers and Youth in Wa-Sombo, Upper West Region.
Project Launch: 1-12-24
Teen Talk Ghana seeks an investment from World Connect to create a resource center for teenage mothers and youth in the Wa-Sombo community in the Upper West region of Ghana. The project is designed to economically empower thirty (30) teen mothers through acquisition of vocational skills in weaving and tailoring, which will be provided at the center. Additionally, the center will have space that will be used as a community library, primarily benefiting over 1000 youth in the area. The majority of the project funds will be used to renovate an existing five room structure to accommodate the training equipment, library materials and furniture required for the project.
Project Update: 6-18-24
The creation of Resource Centre for Teenage Mothers and Youth in Wa-Sombo, Upper West Region in Ghana has progressed well. 5 rooms have been modified and set up as training classrooms. A total of 30 teen mothers have been trained in tailoring and weaving. Additionally, a library has been renovated and is already in use by the communities. Despite being affected by delayed funding levels, mothers have gained skills and continue to practice as the project progresses. Aysihatu Sulemani, a 19-year-old weaving student had this to say when asked about the impact of the project on her life, “This journey has been enlightening. In a short time, I've honed my skills in weaving clothes with diverse designs, gaining an invaluable asset to support myself as a teen mother. Also, I wake up each day and am happy to go to work because people in my community now respect me. The project promises a sustained impact on the participants going forward.
